Western’s 23rd annual Wine and Food event is Friday, September 28 from 6-9 pm. You don’t have to be a wine aficionado to enjoy this wonderful event at the Birmingham Zoo. There will be over 650 wines to taste, with every variety, style, and price range represented. Student chefs from the Jeff State Culinary school will be preparing dishes that showcase some of the best local food offerings. No need to eat before you arrive. There will be grilled Hereford Beef, farm-raised shrimp, sushi, Fox Valley crab cakes, some of the best imported and local made cheeses, and a variety of the best local desserts, just to name a few. All of the products are available at Western, of course. Western’s professional wine staff will be on hand, as well as wine distributors and growers to answer your questions and offer suggestions. There will be carousel rides, a raffle prizes, and the Zoo staff will be parading animals around the crowd throughout the night.
Wine tasters may want to scan the QR code at the door, which will provide a table event directory on smarthphones, with room for tasting notes that you can email to yourself. The less tech-savvy can always use the printed wine directory that is provided. Take advantage of great, one-time wine discounts and pre-purchase wine to pick up at a Western location at your convenience. All proceeds from this great event go to the local Emmet O’neal Library.
