For a truly absurd price of $19.99.
The concern was the price. After tasting the wine our thoughts went something like this, “It is an awesome Oregon Chardonnay. It will probably be somewhere in the mid $30’s, maybe more. It is Freedom Hill fruit. If it is less than $40 we can sell it.”
Our wine rep smiled big. Our wine rep smiled real big. We could retail it for $19.99. Let me re-iterate. A wine we were hoping would be in the mid-30’s is only $19.99.
There are only about 9 cases available. It hasn’t been reviewed by any of them fancy-pants wine publications, but we dig it.
St. Innocent was named for the father of the founder of St. Innocent Winery. Mark Vlossak’s father was born on December 28th, which is the Feast of the Holy Innocents on the Catholic Calendar.
A vital part of a wine retailer’s job is the actual tasting of wines. It might sound fun (and it is sometimes is) but it is often work. Tasting the 2011 St. Innocent Chardonnay, Freedom Hill… that was fun. That was real fun.
